[June 10, 2015]
As I sit here in an interrogation room at the Santa Monica Police Department, my hands cuffed down to the table, the only thought that goes through my head is if AJ is safe… If that he’s alive. He’s got to be alive. At that moment, two officers enter the room and take seats in the chair in front of me. One is an mild-aged, overweight white guy who reeks of coffee and cigarettes and the other is a clean cut black guy in his thirties. Instead of making eye contact with them, I keep my eyes focused down at the handcuffs on my wrists. How did I get here?
The white officer slams his hand on the table to try to get my attention but I don’t budge and my eyes stay in place. He stands up and begins to circle around me and his stench begins to engulf the entire room.
White Officer: “Come on kid, give us the fucking statement we need so that we can all get on with our days. You left your toddler in that goddamned car in the heat, right? You practically admitted it at the scene… So just give us the statement we need.”
My brow furrows as I look up at the white officer in confusion. Did I really admit that it was me? I… I barely remember it. I shake my head and look down at the table again as my eyes become glassy with tears. The angry white officer kicks at the table due to my non-compliance. The black officer calmly begins to speak to me.
Black Officer: ”Listen kid, you all but gave yourself up. So just give us a statement that we can roll with and we can all call it a day. Maybe we’ll even let you see your kid now that he’s in stable condition.”
My eyes widen as I stand up from the table and forget that I’m cuffed to it and I end up jerking the table to the right as I try and walk away frantically.
Aiden Morrow: ”I-I need to get out here! I’ve got to see AJ!”
The angry, older officer comes up to me and grabs me by my shirt collar before shoving me back down into my chair. He then drives his forearm down into the back of my neck, driving my head down onto the table.
White Officer: ”You little shit! Do you really think we’re going to let you see your kid after you forgot about him and he almost died? Seriously, there’s a special fucking place in hell for you. So quit wasting our goddamned time… AND MAKE YOUR FUCKING STATEMENT!”
A rush of guilt infiltrates throughout my entire body as I look up into the eyes of the officer, who’s taken his forearm off the back of my head at this point. I remember now, I did say it was my fault at the scene… I said it because I wasn’t there to prevent it from happen. I should’ve known that something was up… That there was a reason that Veronica didn’t answer her phone. This is my fault… I glance over at the black officer and nod my head.
Aiden Morrow: ”Okay… It wa-”
Suddenly there’s a loud knock on the door to the interrogation room and the older, white officer looks frustrated as he slaps his hand on the table.
White Officer: ”Who the fuck is that!?”
The black officer stands up from his chair.
Black Officer: ”I don’t know but I’ll check.”
He opens the door to the interrogation room and standing at the door is a man in a suit and tie with a suitcase in hand. His hair is pepper colored and he’s got a smile that lights up the room. The white officer stands up and has an angry look on his face. He really seems like the type of guy who’s gone through five different divorces.
White Officer: ”What the hell do you want? We’ve got an interrogation going on.”
The man in the suit smiles and nods.
Man In Suit: ”That’s exactly why I’m here, actually. My client will be taking no further questions. My name is William Durant, attorney at law. I’ll be representing Mr. Morrow from here on out, so if you two could leave so that I can speak with my client, that would be great.”
The white officer slams his fist down on the table and glares at me as he walks away. He then reaches the door and his eyes scan over William up and down as he snarls before exiting the room. The black officer nods at me before exiting the room in a much more respectful manner. William Durant shuts the door behind him before walking up to the table and taking a seat across from me. He pulls out his iPhone and dials a number and waits for the person on the other end to pick up.
William Durant: ”David?... Yeah, I have Aiden sitting here in front of me if you want to talk to him. Alright, his hands are cuffed to the table, so I’ll put you on speaker and set the phone in front of him.”
David… As in my father? How does he already know about all of this? My eyes widen as William presses the speaker button on his touch screen before setting the phone down in front of me. I look down at the phone and then back up at William, not knowing what to say.
David Morrow: ”Aiden, are you there, son?”
Hearing my dad’s voice has brought a calm and ease to me that I haven’t felt since I found AJ in the car a few hours ago. Taking a deep breath, I let out a sigh of relief as I speak into the phone.
Aiden Morrow: ”Yeah dad, I’m here…”
David Morrow: ”Aiden, you need to listen to me and you need to listen clearly. DO NOT admit to leaving AJ in that vehicle. You did nothing wrong, son. Your mother and I told you these last few years how Veronica had problems and you will not be going away to prison for her so that she can pull this shit again.”
I roll my eyes and the tone he’s speaking in starts to get my frustrated.
Aiden Morrow: ”Dad, I don’t fucking have time for this! Tell me about my son! Please, tell me he’s okay!!!”
David Morrow: ”He’s in stable condition, Aiden. Just give me a few hours and I’ll have you bailed out… But you need to know that Veronica admitted to me over the phone that she left AJ in the car and forgot about him and I’m reporting it to the police right now. She’s here at the hospital with your mother and I and it’s obvious that she’s on drugs, Aiden. I’m sorry to tell you this but you need to know and you need to distance yourself from her. Not just for you… But for AJ’s sake.”
My eyes begin to fill with tears as my heart sinks. Swallowing hard and shaking my head, I respond.
Aiden Morrow: ”Dad… No… No! I-I can fix this! I can fix her.”
David Morrow: ”You’ve been saying that forever now. I’m not going to let you ruin your life anymore, Aiden. You gave up a college scholarship for her… I won’t let you give up anything else. I’ll see you soon, I love you.”
Aiden Morrow: ”Wait, just let me talk to her!...”
There’s a click on the other end and it’s clear that my dad has hung up the phone. I look up at William Durant as he grabs his phone and puts it in his coat pocket.
Aiden Morrow: ”So what now?"
William opens his suitcase and pulls out a few pieces of paper and a pen. He then pulls out a pair of eyeglasses and puts them on. With a pen in his hand now, he’s holding it close to the paper on the table as he looks at me.
William Durant: ”Now? Now you’re going to tell me the story of what happened and you’re going to tell me the facts. Not why you feel like it’s your fault but what really happened, got it?”
Nodding my head, I take a deep breath before responding.
Aiden Morrow: ”Got it. Where do I even start?"
William Durant: ”At the very beginning.”

The scene opens up with Aiden Morrow sitting down on his couch and he’s watching television on a big screen. The camera pans over to the screen and it’s now clear that Aiden is watching a playback of his match with PerZag. The match ends with Aiden and PerZag pinning each other and mass confusion happening before it’s announced that the match is a draw. PerZag offers a hand to Aiden and he accepts it… The two rivals shake hands as the second Legacy show goes off the air. Aiden picks up a remote and turns the television off before standing up from the couch.
Aiden Morrow: ”There’s been a lot of questions surrounding me, Aiden Morrow, so far during my debut here in Legacy Wrestling. I’ve had one of the weirdest starts this business has probably ever seen. My first night here, I was supposed to fight John Tolly but PerZag brutally attacked him before attacking me. Then two weeks ago, I fought against PerZag for a shot at the Legacy Championship and the match ended up in a draw.”
“So some people aren’t sure if I have what it takes because of my odd start. If you want to keep on doubting me, then go ahead. I gladly welcome it because it only drives me to get stronger and be the absolute best that I can be. The fact of the matter is, I took a veteran liker PerZag to the limit and we ended in a draw in what I think will be known as one of the classic battles in Legacy’s history. That’s part of the legacy that we’re leaving behind here. I’m not sure what’s going to happen at the next show with the announcement about PerZag and I and whether or not we’ll be in the championship match… But if we are, no matter the outcome, people will always talk about what happened to lead up to that point.”
Aiden nods his head as he walks closer to the camera.
Aiden Morrow: ”I’m personally proud of what I’ve done so far. I’ve come out to the ring every time and gave my heart, no matter what circumstances came up. Despite things not going the way I want them to go yet, I will continue to keep my head up and work harder than everyone else. Some people just throw out statements like that but when I say it, I mean it. This is my dream and after everything that I’ve gone through in my life, I will not let anything turn me away.”
“Speaking of not letting anything turn me away from my goals, this brings me to Teo Jakobah. Teo came up with one of the biggest upsets two weeks ago when he beat Alexander Raven. A lot of people thought that came out of nowhere but that was only for the people who don’t do their homework. You see, I know that Teo had a run as a tag team champion last year and he’s done decently well for himself in his career so far. Yeah, he took a little break but now he’s back and he showed that he still has what it takes in the ring.”
“So I’m not going to say that his victory of Alexander was a fluke or anything because it was definitely well deserved. But one of the things with Alexander is that I don’t think he had his sights on putting Legacy on his shoulders and carrying it. His focus was on getting drafted and that’s what he did. While I agree that should be all of our goals at the end of the day… But I think fighting here at Legacy for the time being and the foreseeable future is what my destiny holds. Not only do I want to become the best possible version of myself here, but I want people to want to watch Legacy in the same manner that they watch Mayhem and Showdown.”
“I take that as a challenge upon myself and it’s something that I think we all should do. It’s why I so badly want to be the Legacy Champion. But before I get ahead of myself, I need to beat Teo Jakobah, one of the most unique competitors on our roster. While he may be small in stature and he might talk a little funny, he’s definitely not a joke in the ring. But while I take Jakobah seriously, sadly enough, I’ve heard that he doesn’t think I’m very good. He said I’m not very impressive so far.”
Aiden pauses as he smiles and shrugs his shoulders.
Aiden Morrow: ”Teo, I think the only thing about this match that isn’t impressive is your English skills. Maybe you should work on English before you cut your next promo, bud. So go ahead and talk about the ‘uglies disease’ all you want, but what you really need to focus on is me. Not some delusional things that you came up with in your head. Am I sounding a little harsh right now? Maybe I am but what I’m saying is true unlike all of the false crap that Teo had to say about me.”
Aiden starts to pace around the room as the look on his face changes to one that’s quite serious. He finally stops a few feet in front of the camera and he stares into the camera.
Aiden Morrow: ”So you’ve never heard of the people I’ve trained under? Congratulations for living under a rock. You can say they aren’t any good because they don’t exist in your imaginary world all you want but the facts are there, my training is world class. But it’s not just the training that makes the wrestler, it’s the heart and determination in that competitor that makes him great. It’s the incredibly drive that he has to be the best. In my heart of hearts, I know I have that. You want to call me boring and unoriginal for cutting one of my promos at the gym? News flash, I’m a wrestler and that’s one of the places you’ll find me the majority of the time.”
“How about my promo right now where I’m sitting here at home, watching my match from two weeks ago? You see, I’ve been watching that match over over again, every day for the last two weeks. Why? Because I’m finding every little mistake I’ve made and I’m correcting it. Even if I won, I’d be doing the same thing. Yeah, this might be the ‘boring’ part of the job but it’s necessary to be great. But what are you doing to prepare for our match, Teo? Oh that’s right, you’re lying around in a ballpit, something that my three year old son would do. So tell me, do you really believe that you’re ready for this match with me? Because I don’t think you are… But I know that I’m ready for you because I’ve been planning and preparing.”
Aiden takes a deep breath and exhales as he keeps his eyes lasered in on the camera.
Aiden Morrow: ”One thing that struck a chord with me is how you said I won’t be leaving a legacy behind for my son. I appreciate you saying that, I truly thank you. Why? Because you’ve awoken a beast. I usually have all of the motivation that I could ever need but now you’ve lit a fire under me by threatening what matters to me the most. While people like you simply fight for yourselves and your own needs… I fight for my son and nobody else. Some people might see it as a weakness but he’s my strength. AJ is the reason I fight so damn hard every day.”
“I won’t be pushed aside and I will be heard at Legacy. When I beat you in the middle of the ring for the three count, I’ll officially be putting my name in the hat for the Legacy Championship and there’s no possible away that they can keep me out of that match after I beat you. This is my time, my legacy. My first two matches didn’t go as planned but I won’t let that stop me. I’m going to beat you Teo and when it’s all said and done, you’re going to realize that the only ‘ugly’ in this match is you and your attitude.”
Aiden nods at the camera when AJ and Joey Reyes walk into the house. AJ runs up to Aiden and Aiden lifts AJ up into his arms and smiles. The two begin to talk and laugh and the scene quickly fades out.
